MEDAMA: Where Craft Meets Industry “A dialogue between hand-woven rattan craftsmanship and industrial mirror production.”
MEDAMA integrates an industrially produced mirror with a hand-woven rattan and bamboo frame crafted by northern Thai artisans. The circular mirror is encircled by meticulously woven natural fibers, creating a tactile contrast between reflective glass and organic texture. The piece demonstrates how precision manufacturing and handmade processes can coexist within a single object.
Rattan weaving has long been embedded in Thai vernacular craft traditions. By pairing this technique with an industrial mirror, MEDAMA creates a contemporary object that bridges traditional handcraft and modern production systems. Rather than positioning craft and industry as opposites, the design presents them as complementary forces within today’s living spaces.
