Traditional Shadow Play Art (Three-Dimensional Interpretation)
A three-dimensional reinterpretation of the Corinthian acanthus motif through Thai shadow play leather craftsmanship, bridging global art history and local artisanal tradition.
Inspired by the Corinthian order, originating in ancient Greece and later flourishing in Roman architecture. Executed using the traditional Nang Yai leather punching and carving technique. Transforms a historically architectural ornament into a freestanding sculptural object. Wood and brass components provide structural integrity and contemporary refinement.
The acanthus leaf has symbolized vitality and regeneration since antiquity. Its presence on Corinthian capitals made it one of the most recognizable motifs in global architectural heritage. By reconstructing this Western classical ornament through Thai leather craftsmanship, the work demonstrates the fluid migration of artistic language across cultures and eras. Originally a carved stone relief, the motif now exists as a perforated leather sculpture, casting shadows and embodying spatial depth. CORINTHIAN connects civilizations—classical Mediterranean aesthetics and Southeast Asian shadow artistry—through material transformation and contemporary reinterpretation.
