PHUM PIKOON

Tray and Food Cover

PHUM PIKOON: Craft on the Contemporary Thai Table Reviving the rare Pikoon bamboo weaving technique as functional tableware for Thailand’s growing culinary culture.

The Pikoon motif derives from the Bullet Wood flower, long present in Thai decorative arts. The weaving requires extremely fine bamboo strips interlaced in eight directions, a time-intensive method now practiced by only a few artisans in central Thailand.

Thailand’s food and hospitality industry is rapidly expanding, shaping new dining aesthetics. PHUM PIKOON integrates endangered craft techniques into modern food presentation, positioning bamboo weaving as part of a contemporary Thai cultural identity rather than a relic of the past.
