FLARE OF STORM

Lamp Shade & Screen

A modular leather installation transforming storm clouds into a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, evoking the moment sunlight pierces through dark rain clouds.

Employs the hand-punched leather technique derived from Nang Yai. Cloud motifs reinterpret traditional Thai ornamental patterns. Functions both as a lamp shade and a spatial screen. Light passing through perforations creates layered shadows resembling sunlight filtering through storm clouds. Panels are modular and freely configurable within different architectural settings.

Storm clouds symbolize turbulence and transition in nature. The “flare” represents a fleeting emergence of light—an ecological metaphor for resilience and renewal.
By relocating shadow play craftsmanship into interior architecture, the work preserves traditional technique while expanding its spatial function. The viewer becomes immersed in shifting light conditions, experiencing nature’s atmospheric drama within personal space. FLARE OF STORM suggests that even in moments of darkness, illumination remains possible.
