KHING VASE (FOREST)

Vase / Functional Sculpture
A contemporary reinterpretation of the Bunga Mas (Golden Tree) tradition, reflecting the fleeting beauty of nature—wildflowers, roadside plants, and untamed forest shrubs.

The vase is cast in brass, forming slender branching structures with delicate leaves that echo plants emerging from grass fields.
Its form references the ceremonial Bunga Mas, a stylized golden tree historically crafted as a tribute object in Southeast Asian cultures.

Traditionally, the Bunga Mas symbolized prosperity and diplomatic respect between kingdoms.
In this work, the symbolic golden tree is transformed into a vessel that gently holds a simple wildflower—shifting its meaning from royal tribute to a quiet reflection on the fragile beauty of nature.
