The cabinet Mini bar
This work reinterprets the traditional Thai art of Nang Yai leather carving through a contemporary functional design. Drawing inspiration from ancient Lai Rod Nam (gold lacquer) motifs—particularly intricate floral and foliage patterns—the piece translates these ornamental forms into a refined surface language. The delicate perforation and carving techniques, historically used to create narrative shadow figures, are adapted to emphasize texture, light, and shadow on a three-dimensional object.
The cabinet is designed as a storage piece for beverages, where craftsmanship and function intersect. Its surface is finished with gold leaf, echoing the visual richness and sacred associations of traditional Thai decorative arts. This gilded layer enhances depth and contrast, allowing the carved patterns to emerge with elegance and luminosity.
By transforming a narrative, performance-based craft into a contemporary object, the work preserves traditional knowledge while expanding its application. It bridges heritage and modern living, offering a tactile and visual experience rooted in Thai cultural identity.
