Basket & Tableware
This body of work reinterprets “Mo-than”—a traditional bamboo weaving practice found along Thailand’s coastal regions—through the lens of contemporary design. Rooted in vernacular craftsmanship, Mo-than utilizes large bamboo strips to create durable, functional forms that have long been part of everyday life. In this collection, the woven bamboo structure is paired with precisely turned wooden lids, defined by refined geometric silhouettes inspired by Thai architectural forms, particularly the vertical rhythm and tiered elegance of prasad (castle-like structures).
The contrast between organic weaving and controlled geometry creates a dialogue between tradition and modernity, craft and design. The tactile softness of bamboo interlocks with the solidity of wood, resulting in objects that embody both warmth and precision. These baskets and tableware pieces transcend their utilitarian origins, becoming collectible design objects that reflect a quiet sense of luxury.
By elevating a regional craft through material refinement and formal abstraction, the work preserves endangered knowledge while repositioning it within a contemporary context. It invites users to engage with cultural heritage not as something distant, but as part of an intimate, everyday ritual.
