RAK CELESTE

Container

This work explores the reinterpretation of spire forms in Thai art and architecture, particularly from the Lanna and Sukhothai periods. It draws inspiration from the lotus-bud finial (dok bua tum), a distinctive apex element commonly found atop stupas, especially in the iconic chedi song phum khao bin form. This architectural feature symbolizes purity, spiritual awakening, and the ascent toward enlightenment within Buddhist cosmology.

Through abstraction, the intricate silhouette of the lotus-bud spire is translated into a contemporary design language. Its tapered, ascending geometry becomes the central form, balancing elegance with symbolic depth. The design distills the essence of sacred architecture into a refined object that can exist within modern living environments.

Material choices and surface finishes enhance its cultural resonance, often referencing traditional craftsmanship while embracing minimalism. By transforming a monumental architectural symbol into a human-scale object, the work bridges past and present, allowing the spiritual and aesthetic values of Thai heritage to be experienced in everyday life.
