CHADA PEARL

This work explores the reinterpretation of spire forms—a defining element in Thai art and cultural symbolism—as a contemporary design language. Traditionally found in sacred architecture and ceremonial regalia, such as yod mala, luk fak tat, and the finial structures of ceremonial helmets worn by soldiers in royal processions, these forms signify hierarchy, authority, and spiritual elevation.

By extracting and abstracting these vertical elements, the design translates their symbolic essence into a new context. The spire, once monumental and ritualistic, is reduced into refined, human-scale objects that can be worn or integrated into everyday life. Through this transformation, the formal language of “the apex” becomes both intimate and accessible, while retaining its original connotations of transcendence and connection to the sacred.

The use of polished and gilded surfaces further reinforces its cultural significance, referencing traditional Thai aesthetics associated with reverence and devotion. This approach allows historical forms to evolve beyond their ceremonial origins, becoming contemporary artifacts that bridge past and present.
Ultimately, the work positions spire forms not only as decorative elements, but as enduring symbols that continue to shape cultural identity within modern society.
